Fire crews extinguished a fire that destroyed a garage and threatened to spread into a Lima Township farmhouse early Wednesday morning.

The Chelsea Area Fire Authority was called to the two-story farmhouse in the 1100 block of Scio Church Road around 5:15 a.m. for reports of a structure fire, according to Chief Jim Payeur.

The garage was already destroyed when firefighters arrived and the blaze had spread into the attic of the attached farmhouse, Payeur said.

But firefighters were able to contain the fire to the attic.

The three people who live in the home -- a husband, wife and a child -- all got out safely. No pets were injured either.

The house is not habitable at this point and Red Cross was called out to help the family.

Crews had the fire under control in about 45 minutes. Fire departments from Scio Township, Manchester, Ann Arbor and Ann Arbor Township also responded.

Payeur said they cleared the scene by 7:30 a.m.

There is no damage estimate yet. The cause is still under investigation.
